3-Day Phu Quoc Itinerary 2026 — Perfect Weekend Plan from Saigon

by Phu Quoc Homestay Team ⏱ 10 min read

Got just a weekend on Phu Quoc? This 3-day plan covers Long Beach, Sao Beach, the Night Market, and a full-day snorkeling boat trip — the maximum experience in 72 hours, with real 2026 costs and timing.

Phu Quoc is built for weekend escapes from Saigon. A 50-minute flight, no jet lag, and you land on a beach within an hour of leaving the city. Three days is enough to see the island's headline experiences — sunset on Long Beach, snorkeling at the An Thoi reefs, fresh seafood at the Night Market — without the rush that comes from trying to do too much.

This itinerary is what we'd plan for our own friends visiting for a long weekend. Every recommendation is from lived experience hosting guests at our Duong Dong homestay since 2020. Skip the over-stuffed travel-blog lists; here are the three days that actually work.

Day 1 (Friday) — Arrive, Beach, Night Market

The pacing for arrival day depends on your flight time. The plan below assumes you land at PQC airport by 4-6 PM on Friday — the most common timing for weekend travelers.

  • 17:00 — Land at PQC airport. Pre-arranged transfer ($8 flat with us) or Grab ($6-10) to your homestay in Duong Dong, 20-minute drive.
  • 17:30 — Check in, drop bags. Quick shower and change into beachwear.
  • 18:00 — Sunset at Long Beach (Bai Truong). Walking distance from Duong Dong, 5 minutes. Settle at a beachside bar for sunset (cocktails $4-7). Best sunset spots: Rory's Beach Bar, Sailing Club, or just sit on the sand at any free section.
  • 19:30 — Night Market dinner. Walk 5 minutes to Dinh Cau Night Market. Stop at one of the seafood grills near the entrance — pick fresh squid, prawns, scallops, or whole grilled fish from the display. Budget $8-12 per person for a generous seafood feast. Pair with a Saigon beer ($1) or fresh coconut ($1).
  • 21:30 — Browse the market. Souvenir stalls, fresh tropical fruit, ice cream. The market is most lively 7-9 PM.
  • 22:30 — Back to the homestay. Pool relaxation or early sleep — tomorrow is a 7 AM start.

Tip: book the snorkeling boat tonight

Ask your homestay host to book tomorrow's boat trip via WhatsApp tonight. Local operators charge 15-30% less than online aggregators. Most boats run only one departure per day at 8 AM, and weekend tours fill up by Friday evening in shoulder/peak season.

Day 2 (Saturday) — An Thoi Snorkeling Boat Trip

The single best activity on Phu Quoc is a full-day boat trip to the An Thoi archipelago in the south. Crystal-clear water, three or four reef stops, two beach island visits, and a fresh seafood lunch onboard.

  • 07:00 — Breakfast at the homestay. Eggs, fresh fruit, coffee. Pack: swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, hat, $20-40 cash for drinks and tips.
  • 08:00 — Pickup from your homestay. Most tour operators include the An Thoi port pickup.
  • 09:00 — Board the boat at An Thoi port. 30-minute ride to the first snorkeling spot.
  • 09:30-15:30 — Three reef stops + Hon May Rut Island lunch. Snorkel gear is provided (mask, fins, vest). Visibility ranges from 5-8 m in low season to 15-20 m in peak. Lunch is grilled fish, vegetables, rice, fruit — included.
  • 16:00 — Return to An Thoi port. Transfer back to your homestay around 16:30.
  • 17:30 — Shower + nap. A full day on a boat is tiring.
  • 19:30 — Dinner at a local restaurant. Try a non-seafood option for variety — bun cha at Bun Cha Ba Dau ($3), pho at Pho 24 ($2.50), or Korean BBQ at K-BBQ Phu Quoc ($10-15).
  • 21:30 — Long Beach sunset bar. Live music nights at Rory's, Coco Bar, or Lotus Sea View. Cocktails $4-7, beer $1.

Snorkeling tour operators

Three reputable operators: Jolly Boat Tour (most popular, English-speaking guides), Phu Quoc Discovery (smaller groups, slightly pricier), and Coco Cruises (catamaran with shaded deck). Price range $18-25 per person including lunch. Avoid no-name boats that approach you on the beach — quality varies wildly.

Day 3 (Sunday) — South Island Day Trip

The south of Phu Quoc has the prettiest beach on the island (Sao Beach), plus three culturally interesting stops on the way back. Rent a motorbike at the homestay ($5-7/day) or hire a car-with-driver ($40-50/day) if you don't ride. Plan for a flexible day — most things are 20-45 minutes apart.

  • 08:00 — Breakfast at the homestay.
  • 09:00 — Ride south to Sao Beach. 45-50 minute scenic motorbike ride along the coastal road through Duong To village. Park at the public beach access ($1 motorbike parking).
  • 09:45-13:00 — Sao Beach. White sand, turquoise water, and gentler waves than Long Beach. Rent a sunbed at one of the beachside cafes ($3-5/day, includes a drink). Order a fresh coconut, grilled prawns, and Vietnamese coffee. Swim, lounge, repeat. Sunset on Sao Beach is also stunning if your flight is late.
  • 13:30 — Lunch at a Sao Beach seafood shack. Whole grilled fish ($8-12) or seafood noodle soup ($4).
  • 14:30 — Phu Quoc Prison museum. A short drive north from Sao Beach. Vietnam War history — sobering and important. 40-minute visit. Free entry.
  • 15:30 — Khu Tuong pepper farm. Phu Quoc is famous for its red and white pepper. Free farm visit with photo opportunities and a small shop. Buy pepper as souvenirs ($3-5 per 100g).
  • 16:30 — Khai Hoan fish sauce factory. Vietnam's most famous fish sauce brand. Free tour, learn how nuoc mam is fermented in massive wooden barrels. Sample and buy.
  • 17:30 — Back to Duong Dong. Return the motorbike, quick shower, pack.
  • 18:30 — Farewell dinner. Splurge a little — try Crab House for crab pasta ($15-20) or stop by the Night Market one more time for grilled seafood.
  • 20:30 — Transfer to airport. Last flights to Saigon depart around 21:30-22:00. Allow 90 minutes for the airport.

If your Sunday flight is in the early morning instead, swap Day 3's structure: do the south-island circuit (Prison + pepper farm + fish sauce) on Day 2 afternoon after the boat trip, and use Sunday morning for a final beach swim + breakfast + airport.

Quick Tips for a Tight 3-Day Trip

  • Book accommodation walking distance from Long Beach — saves hours of taxi time across 3 days. Our homestay is a 5-minute walk to both Long Beach and the Night Market.
  • Pre-arrange the airport transfer — saves haggling time on arrival when energy is low.
  • Stash big notes, carry small ones. Most local stalls don't have change for 500,000 VND.
  • Eat at street stalls for breakfast and lunch, splurge at dinner. Budget allocation that maximizes both savings and the wow-factor of evening seafood.
  • Skip VinWonders and Hon Thom Cable Car on a 3-day trip. They each consume 5-7 hours and crowd out other experiences. Save them for a 5-7 day trip.
  • Build in one slow morning. Day 3's late breakfast and easy ride south is intentional — back-to-back full days burn weekend travelers out.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is 3 days enough for Phu Quoc?
Three days is enough to see Phu Quoc's main highlights: Long Beach for sunsets, Sao Beach for swimming, one full-day boat trip to the An Thoi archipelago for snorkeling, and the Night Market for seafood. You will miss VinWonders, Hon Thom Cable Car, and quieter beaches like Khem and Vung Bau, but the core experience fits comfortably in 72 hours. For a richer trip, see our 7-day itinerary.
What can you do in 3 days in Phu Quoc?
A solid 3-day Phu Quoc itinerary covers: Day 1 — arrive, beach time at Long Beach, sunset cocktails, Night Market seafood dinner. Day 2 — full-day snorkeling boat trip to An Thoi islands with lunch and three reef stops. Day 3 — south-island day trip to Sao Beach with stops at Phu Quoc Prison museum, pepper farm, and fish sauce factory; evening departure or relaxation. Total budget per person: $150-250 mid-range, $80-130 budget.
How much does a 3-day Phu Quoc trip cost?
A realistic 3-day Phu Quoc budget per person: accommodation $45-75 (3 nights × $15-25 homestay), food $30-50 (street + restaurants), 1 boat trip $20, motorbike rental $15-20 (3 days), 1 Sao Beach taxi day $20, miscellaneous $20. Total $150-250 mid-range, or $80-130 backpacker tier with hostel dorms. Add $30-50 flight from Saigon return and the all-in cost is $180-330.
Is 3 days enough for Phu Quoc with family?
Three days works for families with kids 6+ if you skip a day-tour and focus on the homestay pool, Long Beach swimming, and one short attraction (we recommend Hon Thom Cable Car as a half-day instead of full-day VinWonders). Younger children benefit from a slower 4-5 day pace. The Night Market is family-friendly for early evening (5-8 PM).
What is the best 3-day Phu Quoc itinerary in low season?
In low season (Jul-Sep), schedule activities in the morning when weather is most stable. Day 1 — morning beach + Night Market dinner (rain rarely affects evening). Day 2 — morning snorkeling boat trip (some operators run rain-or-shine); afternoon spa or museum. Day 3 — Hon Thom Cable Car (operates in rain) or south-island drive between showers. Build in flexibility for 1-2 hour afternoon rain bursts.
Can you do Phu Quoc as a weekend trip from Saigon?
Yes — Phu Quoc is one of Vietnam's most popular weekend destinations from Saigon. Friday evening 50-minute flight gets you to your homestay by 9 PM. Saturday and Sunday for full beach + island time. Monday morning early flight back to Saigon (last flight leaves PQC around 9 PM Sunday for those needing Monday work). Return flights cost $50-100 in low/shoulder season, $100-180 in peak.
What should I pack for 3 days in Phu Quoc?
Carry-on size luggage handles 3 days easily: 2-3 swimwear, 4-5 light cotton shirts/dresses, 2 shorts, 1 pair of light pants for evening, flip-flops + comfortable walking shoes, microfiber beach towel, sunscreen SPF 50+, sunglasses, hat, swim mask + snorkel if you have one (rentable on boat trips for $2-3), light rain jacket Jul-Oct, phone + charger, $200-400 cash for incidentals.
Should I rent a motorbike for 3 days in Phu Quoc?
A motorbike rental ($5-7/day) is by far the cheapest and most flexible way to explore Phu Quoc in 3 days. It lets you reach Sao Beach, the south island, and quiet beach spots that are expensive by taxi. For non-riders, a private car with driver ($40-50/day) for the south-island day is the alternative. Grab cars work for short trips within Duong Dong but rarely cover the full island.
Is the Phu Quoc Night Market worth visiting?
Yes — Dinh Cau Night Market in Duong Dong is the island's most popular evening destination and a must-see in any Phu Quoc itinerary. Open daily 5 PM to midnight. Highlights: grilled seafood (squid, scallops, prawns) at street stalls for $8-12 per person, fresh tropical fruit, souvenirs, and the lively atmosphere. Best between 6-9 PM; arrive earlier on weekends to avoid lines.
When is the best 3-day weekend to visit Phu Quoc?
November through early March offer the best weather for a weekend trip: sunny days, calm seas, and 27-30°C. The trade-off is higher prices and packed weekends. For value, target April-June or October-November shoulder seasons — weather is still 80% as good and prices drop 25-40%. Avoid the December 20-January 5 holiday week (extreme prices) and Tet (late January/early February).
